The Implosion of the United States
The United States of America has the greatest armed forces in the world. Our Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard are second to none. They have the capacity to confront and defeat all foreign forces on land, air, and sea at any place in the world. Additionally, our intelligence, security, and interrogation agencies have done exceptional jobs in keeping our nation safe, despite 9/11. Moreover, our forces and our agencies continue to improve, and they appear to be making us safer with each passing day. So who would have thought that at this point in time, in this day and age, our nation would be on the verge of destruction? Yet, here we are facing annihilation, and to make matters worst, it’s probably going to be done by the weapon of mass destruction we least suspected ― ourselves!
The inability of our government to move beyond partisan politics, and its powerlessness to implement the types of policies that are in the best interest of all the people, is creating increasing public indifference. More and more Americans no longer believe in the Democratic or Republican Party, or any of the branches of government. Throughout the United States, public indifference is growing. And whether we know it or not, public indifference can destroy consensus, obliterate patriotism, and cause our democratic government to implode. Public indifference is becoming the most dangerous weapon of mass destruction facing our nation, for it makes our nation defenseless, since a growing number of us now see the United States as a nation that is unworthy of our protection and support.
If the democrats and republicans return now to the spirit of fairness and compromise, maybe they might be successful in getting the mood of the nation to reverse course. If the democrats and republicans begin to implement policies that are in the best interest of the people, maybe the citizens of the United States will begin caring about the country again. However, these last two scenarios appear unlikely, with each passing day. This means implosion appears more probable.
God help us!
